20世纪50年代发明了钢丝录音机，它的录音用一根钢丝缓缓通过有电流的线圈，随着电流强弱变化，这根钢丝就会把强弱不同的“小磁铁”一一排列起来，这就实现了声音的储存。把这根带磁的长钢丝通过另一个线圈作用后，磁力的变化又变成电流的变化。然后，通过连接在线圈上的电话听筒，把电流变化再转变成声波的变化，从而放出声音。
