1886年德国人帕尔发明了圆片形八音盒，主要放置在车站、码头人群密集之处。由于冲压机器降低了制作成本，八音盒在19世纪的欧洲一度风行。当时的平民只需投币、拧上发条就能享受音乐了。圆片八音盒也被称为最早的点唱机。

  发条的动力带动表面有小凸起的圆盘匀速转动，当凸起处经过音板音条时会拨动簧片，使簧片按设定的振动频率振动而发出设定的声音。八音盒的音板部分是在一块弹性钢板上切割长短一致、但厚薄粗细不等的细条做成的。圆盘上的一个凸点相当于是乐谱上一个音符。圆盘按有规律设定的凸点，圆盘转动，凸点从音板边缘划过，由于凸点的不同，使发音不同，再加上阻尼的作用，使圆盘做匀速转动，一周转下来一般普通机芯在8-17秒之间，这足以把一首曲子的高潮部分表达出来。

Parr from German invented the disc music box in 1886, which were placed in the station, wharf crowded place. Due to the lower cost of production of stamping machine, music boxes were popular in the 19th century in Europe. Civilians at the time just need to insert coins, twist spring and then they can to enjoy the music. Disc music box was also known as the earliest jukebox.

    Clockwork power driven discs which have small bulges on surface rotating at a constant speed, reeds would be stirred when bulges pass through the soundboard, reeds would make the set sound through the set vibration. The soundboard is on a piece of elastic steel plate, which length is cut identically, but thickness is different. A convex point on disk is equivalent to a note on the music. Convex points on disc are in a order, when rotating disk, convex points bumping from the edge of the soundboard, because of convex points are different, sound are different. The disc does uniform rotation with the help of damping effect, a circumference usually takes 8-17 seconds, which is enough to express the climax of the song.
